Heliskiing Areas

The 3-main heliskiing areas in New Zealand are:

This heliskiing region also has the highest concentration of New Zealand's commerical ski fields, good quality accommodation and tourist activities.

The main heliskiing location within this region is the Harris Mountains situated within the vast terrain of the Southern Alps. There's a lot of choice and thousands of vertical metres offering easy rolling terrain for powder first timers or challenging chutes and steep valleys for the more experienced.

The runs are longer and the powder snow dryer. Provided you are an intermediate skier and are reasonably fit the experience is well worth the price and the views are breathtaking.

Wilderness Heliskiing at Mount Cook offers some of the worlds most spectacular and challenging terrain for both skiers and snowboarders. Ski or ride a selection of the the great peaks on and about the Main Divide (the backbone of the New Zealand Southern Alps).

The magnificent Tasman Glacier provides a stunning scenic 12km run among the towering peaks and ice falls of New Zealand's highest alpine region. Recommended for intermediate skiers only.

The Methven region provides spectacular heliskiing amongst towering peaks and glaciers in the heart of the Southern Alps.

2021 Heliskiing Season

The New Zealand Heliskiing season generally operates from 1st July to 30th September. But due to good snow conditions heliskiing may operate until late October.

NOTE: Queenstown / Wanaka heliskiing may sometimes commence a week earlier.

Additionally private heliskiing charters are available at Mount Cook between the end of the heliskiing season and late October. The spring snow is normally excellent and the terrain is fantastic.
