EQUIPMENT

What to Take
New Zealand's weather is changeable, so it is necessary to be prepared with warm gear at all times. Even at the height of summer mountain weather can change quickly, so you must be prepared, especially for the rain storms that regularly drench the Southern Alps. The wisest approach for dressing for New Zealand conditions is to wear layered clothing.

Some suggested locations for browsing for new wilderness equipment:
Mountain Hardwear
REI
Two international renowned New Zealand suppliers of Wilderness Equipment:
Cactus Climbing Equipment
Macpac
