Image of SnowboarderNew Zealand is one of the most popular places for skiing, snowboarding and heli skiing in the Southern Hemisphere. The main ski resort towns are Queenstown and Wanaka which also provide sensational heli skiing. The New Zealand ski season is roughly early July to early October and starts as the Northern Hemisphere slopes finally melt away making New Zealand an increasingly popular international ski destination. The main North Island fields include the country's two largest and most popular destinations, Turoa and Whakapapa. The Southern Alps give the South Island a great deal more scope, with the greatest concentration of commercial fields being around Queenstown - Coronet Peak and The Remarkables; and Wanaka - Treble Cone, Cardrona and the Waiorau Nordic Ski Area. Further north Mount Hutt and Mount Potts are both within two hours drive of Christchurch International Airport.

The greatest concentration of New Zealands commercial fields are located around Queenstown - Coronet Peak and The Remarkables; and Wanaka - Treble Cone, Cardrona and the Waiorau Nordic Ski Area.

Tiritiri Lodge - near Wanaka
Tiritiri Lodge sits on the eastern shore of Lake Wanaka. This luxury boutique lodge has 5 deluxe king guest rooms and 1 deluxe king suite all with magnificent mountain views. The rooms are furnished with luxurious beds, fine Egyptian cotton linen, pure down duvets and a choice of pillows, custom made carpet, original art, comfortable armchairs and personal toiletries.

Temple Basin Ski Area - Arthurs Pass National Park

Image of Temple BasinTemple Basin Ski Area is a unique ski club field sporting rope tows and two ski lodges. Temple Basin requires a 55-minute walk in but has fantastic snowboarding terrain, on site lodge accommodation and rental equipment.

COMPOSITE WEEK at Temple Basin Ski Area

Composite Week is for people who want to pamper themselves a bit. The services of a gourmet chef to do the cooking, and a cleaner to do the less attractive chore, gives you more time on the slopes. This 7-day package commences on the Sunday and ceases midday on the following Saturday.

  • 7 days and 6 nights
  • Includes Dinner, Lunch, Breakfast. (No Lunch on first day)

Heli-Skiing and Heli-Boarding

Image of Heli SkiersNew Zealand is a great place to try heliskiing and heliboarding. The main Heliskiing Locations are Methven, Mount Cook, Queenstown and Wanaka. At Mount Cook the Tasman Glacier provides a fantastic 12km scenic run. The heliskiing season normally runs from July to early October. Provided you are an intermediate skier and are reasonably proficient at skiing powder you should be able to pass the ability questionnaire, but at around NZ$850 a day it isn't for everyone.
